Hack For Nothing

Hack for Nothing is a hackathon for ideas that should not exist, but now that they do, you cannot stop thinking about them. There are no problem statements, no pitch decks, and no expectation that this turns into a startup. The only valid reason to build something here is “technically, this is possible.” This is a throwback to how hackathons used to be. Before demos became investor auditions. Before every project needed a market, a narrative, and a monetization slide. Back when cracked engineers stayed up too late, wired together strange systems, and learned more by building something cursed than by polishing something sensible. ### What we’re looking for - Projects that are useless on paper but fascinating in execution - Systems that react to humans instead of helping them - Ideas that make people laugh first and then ask “wait… how did you even build this?” ### Example energy - A doorbell that, when pressed, triggers a physical hand to knock on the door instead of ringing - A speaker that listens to conversations and randomly plays a dramatic background score when it senses tension, even if the topic is trivial - A browser extension that publicly tweets every website you visit and everything you type, in real time, no filters Build something random, invasive, over engineered, and slightly unhinged. If your demo makes people uncomfortable but impressed, you’re doing it right.
