How do you chain filters?
Assesses fundamental understanding of Vue.js conventions, runtime behavior, and memory/performance considerations.
Hiring managers look for precision, avoidance of ambiguous jargon, and ability to explain trade-offs under real production conditions.
You can chain filters one after the other to perform multiple manipulations on the expression. The generic
structure of filter chain would be as below,
{{ message | filterA | filterB | filterB ... }}
In the above chain stack, you can observe that message expression applied with three filters, each separated by a
pipe(|) symbol. The first filter(filterA) takes the expression as a single argument and the result of the
expression becomes an argument for second filter(filterB) and the chain continue for remaining filters.
For example, if you want to transform date expression with a full date format and uppercase then you can apply
dateFormat and uppercase filters as below,
{{ birthday | dateFormat | uppercase }}

Candidate Response Strategy & Interview Tips
- Start with a concise one-sentence summary: Deliver a direct, confident answer first before expanding into nuances.
- Demonstrate real-world trade-offs: Discuss where this approach excels and when you would avoid it in production systems.
- Discuss complexity & edge cases: Proactively explain time/space complexity or boundary conditions (null values, scale limits).
- Prepare for interviewer follow-ups: Technical hiring panels frequently probe deeper into concurrency, backward compatibility, or alternative libraries.
