1 How do you qualify a deal using a framework like BANT or MEDDIC? Hard

BANT and MEDDIC are qualification frameworks that force honesty about whether a deal is real.

BANT covers Budget, Authority, Need and Timing. It is simple and useful for transactional deals: can they pay, can this person decide, is the problem urgent, and is there a deadline?

MEDDIC is deeper and suits complex enterprise sales: Metrics, Economic buyer, Decision criteria, Decision process, Identify pain and Champion. Its strength is uncovering the measures the buyer cares about and confirming you have a champion inside who can sell when you are not in the room.

I use the framework as a checklist, not a script. I ask questions, then score the deal and identify the biggest gap. A deal with no economic buyer and no defined process is forecast risk, so I either close the gap or remove it from the reliable pipeline.

2 What is your approach to negotiating a discount request? Hard

My starting point is that a discount is a trade, never a gift.

When a buyer asks for a lower price I first understand the reason. Is it budget reality, a competing quote, or a negotiation tactic? I isolate it: "If we could solve the price, is there anything else in the way?"

Then I trade. A discount buys something: a longer contract, annual prepayment, a case study, more seats or a faster signature. For example, I might offer ten percent off in exchange for a two year commitment. I never lead with the maximum discount, and I keep pricing consistent across similar customers so I do not create precedent problems.

If the gap is genuine and we cannot bridge it, I qualify out rather than destroy the value of the product. Discounting to win often loses the account's future expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sales Interviews

What do hiring managers evaluate in Sales technical rounds?

Technical interviewers look for foundational fluency, idiomatic syntax, clarity when communicating complex logic, and awareness of performance trade-offs (e.g. memory footprint, render performance, and network latency) in production environments.

What are the best interview tips for practicing Sales questions?

Use active recall: summarize each answer in your own words before revealing the model solution. Focus on explaining why a certain approach is chosen rather than just memorizing code syntax.
