Is Single File Components violating separation of concerns?
Assesses fundamental understanding of Vue.js conventions, runtime behavior, and memory/performance considerations.
Hiring managers look for precision, avoidance of ambiguous jargon, and ability to explain trade-offs under real production conditions.
As for the latest modern UI development, separation of concerns is not equal to separation of file types. So it is
preferred to divide codebase layers into loosely-coupled components and compose them instead of dividing the
codebase into three huge layers that interweave with one another. This way makes Single File Components more
cohesive and maintainable by combining template, logic and styles together inside a component.
You can also still maintain javascript and CSS files separately with hot-reloading and pre-compilation features.
For example,
<template>
<div>This section will be pre-compiled and hot reloaded</div>
</template>
<script src="./my-component.js"></script>
<style src="./my-component.css"></style>

Candidate Response Strategy & Interview Tips
- Start with a concise one-sentence summary: Deliver a direct, confident answer first before expanding into nuances.
- Demonstrate real-world trade-offs: Discuss where this approach excels and when you would avoid it in production systems.
- Discuss complexity & edge cases: Proactively explain time/space complexity or boundary conditions (null values, scale limits).
- Prepare for interviewer follow-ups: Technical hiring panels frequently probe deeper into concurrency, backward compatibility, or alternative libraries.
