What are vuex getters??
Assesses fundamental understanding of Vue.js conventions, runtime behavior, and memory/performance considerations.
Hiring managers look for precision, avoidance of ambiguous jargon, and ability to explain trade-offs under real production conditions.
Vuex getters acts as computed properties for stores to compute derived state based on store state. Similar to
computed properties, a getter's result is cached based on its dependencies, and will only re-evaluate when some of
its dependencies have changed.
Let's take a todo example which as completedTodos getter to find all completed todos,
const store = new Vuex.Store({
state: {
todos: [
{ id: 1, text: 'Vue course', completed: true },
{ id: 2, text: 'Vuex course', completed: false },
{ id: 2, text: 'Vue Router course', completed: true }
]
},
getters: {
completedTodos: state => {
return state.todos.filter(todo => todo.completed)
}
}
})
Note: Getters receive state as first argument.

Candidate Response Strategy & Interview Tips
- Start with a concise one-sentence summary: Deliver a direct, confident answer first before expanding into nuances.
- Demonstrate real-world trade-offs: Discuss where this approach excels and when you would avoid it in production systems.
- Discuss complexity & edge cases: Proactively explain time/space complexity or boundary conditions (null values, scale limits).
- Prepare for interviewer follow-ups: Technical hiring panels frequently probe deeper into concurrency, backward compatibility, or alternative libraries.
